Our Mission, Vision
& Purpose
Our mission is simple: to make disciples who live and love like Jesus so that our neighbors, the nations, and the next generation will follow Him. This isn't just a slogan. It's the mission that shapes every ministry, every decision, and every next step we take as a church. Our vision is rooted in Scripture: love God and love people (Matthew 22:37–40), go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19–20), and entrust the faith to people who will teach others (2 Timothy 2:2). We live out that mission through our Discipleship Pathway: Worship God, Live in Community, Serve Others, and Make Disciples. Together, these biblical convictions shape everything we do as we help people live and love like Jesus.
What We Believe
First McKinney is a Southern Baptist, Bible-believing church, and our church beliefs begin with the conviction that the Bible is God's Word—trustworthy, true, and relevant for everyday life. We believe Jesus Christ is the hope of the world, that salvation is found through faith in Him by grace, and that baptism is a public step of obedience for every believer. Our Church History
& Legacy
First McKinney began in 1872 when a group of believers came together with a shared desire to follow Jesus, make disciples, and serve the growing McKinney community. More than 150 years later, God continues to write that story through generations of faithful church ministry, lives transformed by the gospel, and a church committed to serving its city. From partnering with Finch Elementary to opening our doors as an emergency warming shelter, we seek to live and love like Jesus in practical ways. As we continue investing in the next generation—including the opening of our new Students Building in 2025—we remain committed to the same purpose that has guided us from the beginning: helping people follow Jesus and helping others do the same. Meet Our Church
Leadership & Staff
The church leadership at First McKinney is committed to faithfully teaching God's Word, caring for people, and making disciples. Lead Pastor Sam Holm brings a lifelong passion for helping people follow Jesus. Before coming to First McKinney, he spent 17 years at Pine Cove Christian Camps and later served as Teaching Pastor at Park Cities Baptist Church before God called him to McKinney. He's known for practical, biblical teaching and a genuine love for people. Alongside Pastor Sam, Executive Pastor Chris Havard, Worship Pastor Justin Hornsby, and our ministry staff serve Kids, Students, Adults, Families, and Senior Adults while equipping people to live and love like Jesus. Our church leadership structure is rooted in the biblical principles of 2 Timothy 2:2—raising up disciples who make disciples and leaders who develop future leaders. Life at First McKinney
Worship at First McKinney is centered on Jesus and designed for every generation. Each Sunday you'll experience Christ-centered worship led by our worship team and choir, congregational singing that invites everyone to participate, and practical, verse-by-verse teaching from God's Word that helps people follow Jesus in everyday life. ASL interpretation is available during the 10:45 AM worship service. Beyond Sunday worship, our church family continues to grow through Kids Ministry, Student Ministry, Life Groups, and ministries for every age and stage of life. Whether you're part of Kids Ministry, Student Ministry, a young adult, parent, or senior adult, you'll find opportunities to build meaningful relationships, grow in your faith, and serve others.
