First McKinney is led by Lead Pastor Sam Holm, alongside Executive Pastor Chris Havard and a church staff of pastors, ministers, directors and support staff who serve across the church. Our Pastoral Leadership
Lead Pastor Sam Holm is responsible for the ministry of God’s Word and the vision of First McKinney. He teaches the Bible in an authentic way, helping people see clearly what it says, understand what it means and apply it to their lives. He also invests personally in small discipleship groups that equip people to help others grow in their faith. Before coming to McKinney, Sam spent 17 years serving with Pine Cove Christian Camps and was a teaching pastor at Park Cities Baptist Church. He’s direct, sincere and usually in jeans.
Executive Pastor Chris Havard leads the church’s staff and operations, working alongside Sam and our pastors, ministers and directors to carry out the mission of First McKinney. Together, our pastoral team serves and equips the church as we make disciples who live and love like Jesus and help others do the same.

How Our Church Leadership Is Structured
The church leadership structure at First McKinney is intentionally straightforward. First McKinney is a Baptist church where the Executive Committee helps guide the work of the church alongside the pastoral staff, who provide teaching, shepherding and ministry leadership.
Our approach to biblical church leadership principles is rooted in 2 Timothy 2:2, where believers are called to entrust what they have learned to others who will faithfully teach others. At First McKinney, that means leaders equip and develop other leaders, from our pastoral staff and ministry teams to Life Group leaders and volunteers serving throughout the church. Leadership here is ultimately about helping people follow Jesus and equipping them to help others do the same.

Student Minister Hayden Gilliam leads the Student Ministry at First McKinney, serving middle school and high school students through Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, groups, events and other opportunities designed to help students grow as disciples of Jesus. The Students Building provides a dedicated space for students to gather, connect, worship and grow in their faith.

Worship Pastor Justin Hornsby leads the Worship Ministry at First McKinney, helping lead Christ-centered worship each Sunday through congregational singing, choir and a team of musicians and worship leaders.
Joanne Eaton directs the First Baptist Learning Center (FBLC), First McKinney’s weekday preschool serving kids and families in our community. Joanne has been part of the FBLC team since 1994, bringing decades of experience to the ministry. She serves alongside Assistant Director Naomi Tamez.
Yes. Leaders training leaders is an important part of how First McKinney makes disciples. Through discipleship groups, Life Groups, serve teams and ministry opportunities, people are encouraged and equipped to grow as leaders and help others follow Jesus. Many leaders begin simply by serving faithfully and allowing God to develop their gifts over time.
Absolutely.
