D-Groups: Discipleship Groups at First McKinney

Grow as a disciple of Jesus, and learn to help others do the same.

D-Groups at a Glance

D-Groups at First McKinney are small, intentional discipleship groups of approximately 2-5 people, with men meeting with men and women meeting with women. They meet regularly to grow through God’s Word, encourage one another to follow Jesus in everyday life, and learn to help others do the same. D-Groups are designed to multiply, equipping each person to eventually invest in and disciple others.

The Deep End of the Pool

Both Life Groups and D-Groups help people grow as followers of Jesus, but they serve different purposes. Life Groups provide a larger community for studying God’s Word, building relationships, and living life together. A D-Group is a smaller, more intentional discipleship group of approximately 2-5 people, with men meeting with men and women meeting with women. D-Groups meet regularly for a season to grow through Scripture, prayer, accountability, and intentional disciple making. D-Groups are also designed with replication in mind. As you grow together, you learn to invest in others, share your faith, and eventually help others live and love like Jesus and do the same.

Built to Multiply

D-Groups are designed with multiplication in mind. As you grow through God’s Word and intentional relationships, you are also being equipped to make disciples by investing in others and helping them learn to live and love like Jesus. This follows the pattern Paul gives in 2 Timothy 2:2: what we have learned is entrusted to others who will be equipped to teach others, too. A D-Group typically meets two to four times a month for approximately six to 18 months. During that season, participants learn and practice rhythms they can eventually share with others. As the group prepares to multiply, each person is encouraged to pray about people in their own circle of influence and consider beginning a new disciple-making relationship. This is disciple making at work: disciples growing together and becoming equipped to help others do the same.

Trained, Not Thrown In

You don’t have to know everything or have all the answers to lead a D-Group. D-Group Training provides practical tools and guidance to help you understand the model, begin an intentional discipleship relationship, and lead others through the rhythms of a D-Group. Men disciple men and women disciple women, creating intentional opportunities for men’s discipleship and women’s discipleship centered on God’s Word, prayer, accountability, and multiplication. As each group grows, participants are equipped to invest in others and eventually begin D-Groups of their own. D-Group Training is offered at various times throughout the year.
