What We Believe: Baptist Beliefs & Our Statement of Faith at First McKinney
Truth without compromise. Grace without pretense.
Our Beliefs at a Glance
First McKinney is a Southern Baptist church in McKinney, Texas. Our church beliefs begin with the Bible, the inspired, inerrant Word of God, and center on Jesus Christ: His perfect life, substitutionary death and resurrection. Read our full statement of faith below, with 11 core beliefs grounded in Scripture.
The Gospel
At the center of what we believe is the good news of Jesus Christ. There is a real kingdom and a real King. He is Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God. In His love and by His grace, Jesus lived a perfect life, died for our sin, rose again and will return. We are called to repent, believe and follow Jesus. Romans 10:9–10 points us to a personal response: confess Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. The gospel is at the heart of who we are as a church.

The Authority of the Bible
What we believe begins with the Bible. We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the basis for our beliefs (2 Timothy 3:16). This commitment to biblical authority shapes how we teach at First McKinney, including walking through entire books of Scripture verse by verse so we can understand God’s Word in context and apply it to everyday life. Our biblical beliefs are grounded in Scripture, and we seek to teach God’s Word faithfully and clearly to every generation. The 11 Core Beliefs below provide the biblical foundation for what we believe and teach.

What Our Beliefs Look Like in Everyday Life
What we believe shapes how we live. Our church core values hold truth without compromise and grace without pretense together, while the Discipleship Pathway gives us a clear picture of life as a follower of Jesus: Worship God, Live in Community, Serve Others and Make Disciples. These core values are reflected as we spend time in God’s Word and prayer, grow alongside others in Life Groups, serve our neighbors and help others follow Jesus. Together, they point us toward our mission of making disciples who live and love like Jesus and help others do the same.

Believer’s Baptism & the Lord’s Supper
At First McKinney, we observe two ordinances: water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26). Believer’s baptism follows a personal decision to follow Jesus and is a public expression of faith and new life in Christ. We celebrate baptisms throughout the year as people take this next step in following Jesus. New U is a class for children in fifth grade and younger and a parent. Together, they work through a curriculum at home to help children understand salvation and baptism before taking that next step.
We also share the Lord’s Supper together as a church family, remembering Jesus’ sacrifice and proclaiming His death until He returns. If you’re interested in baptism, complete the Take the Next Step Through Baptism form to let us know. If you have questions about baptism or what we believe, we’d be glad to talk with you in the Next Steps Room on Sunday.
